American Legion Riders West Coast Rally 2016

American Legion Riders West Coast Rally 2016

This year's American Legion Riders West Coast Rally will include the annual KIA Thunder Run and Flag Raising - Honoring Gold Star Families. Combining these two events will afford ALR Chapters from all over the state the opportunity to participate in this venerable event that for years has raised awareness of the sacrifices made and endured by those who have lost loved ones in battle.

Over the last fifteen years we have focused our efforts on remembering the fallen heroes of the conflicts in the mid-East. Families from the region and their supporters have gathered together at The Flags in Moss Landing to acknowledge their losses and share their grief. Many have received condolences in the form of the traditional signed KIA flags that are the emblem of our cause.

This year we will seek to honor those who lost a family member in combat during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Often historically overlooked, these families richly deserve to have their losses recognized. We are honored to take up this cause and provide them with a symbol of our condolences. Their sacrifice was significant and our acknowledgment is appropriate.

Please join us on September 24th, 2016 "at the flags" near J&S Surplus on Highway 1 in Moss Landing, beginning at noon, for a ceremonial raising of the colors in honor of these Gold Star Families.

Further, if you are a member of a family who lost someone in either conflict - Korea or Vietnam - please contact us using the contact information below so that we may include you in our recognition ceremony. If you know of any Gold Star Families of either era, please let them know about this event or pass their information along to us so that we might reach out them.

Flag Line for Daniel Martin

This is the Flag Line I talked about at the last meeting.  A good friend and neighbor, Jim Martin’s father, Daniel Martin, died on April 18th.  Jim has asked us to provide a Flag Line at his father’s service at the National Cemetery in Dixon on May 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.  Master Chief Martin served 20 years in the US Navy including on board the USS Bennington and missile frigate USS Reeves.  He did three tours to the Gulf of Tonkin onboard the Reeves.  Master Chief Martin completed his service in 1974 as Chief of Communications on Oahu.

I am hoping we can show up in mass and show our support to the Martin family.  I believe we agreed to meet at the Post on the morning of the service with KSU at 8:30 a.m.  If you have any questions, give me a call, (916) 201-6199.
